Water-side specialists for hyperscale, colocation and edge data centres.

Mission-critical water systems demand mission-critical water treatment. Pre-commission cleaning, commissioning, closed-system chemistry and cooling tower management — designed around concurrent maintainability, uptime and the unforgiving programme of a live data centre.

Sector challenges

Why data centres is different.

Every sector has its own compliance edge cases — the bits that catch out a generalist water treatment provider. Here are the four we design our data centres programmes around.

Concurrent maintainability

Every intervention has to be planned around N+1 and 2N topologies — we work side-by-side with critical environment teams, no shutdowns, no surprises.

Aggressive build programmes

Hyperscale projects move at brutal pace. We mobilise BG29 cleaning teams in days, not weeks, and witness against the BSRIA Soft Landings programme.

Adiabatic & evaporative cooling

Water-side of free-cooling chillers, adiabatic pre-coolers and evaporative condensers — all carry Legionella duty under HSG274 Pt 1 plus chemistry obligations.

Glycol & high-purity loops

Closed loops are often glycolated; some are high-purity (deionised) for direct-to-chip liquid cooling. Treatment chemistry has to suit, not be lifted from a commercial spec.

Standards we work to

The compliance map for data centres.

BSRIA BG29/2021Pre-commission cleaning of pipework — the gateway standard for any new data centre water system.
BSRIA BG50Water treatment for closed-circuit heating and cooling systems — ongoing chemistry on chilled water loops.
HSG274 Pt 1Legionella in cooling towers and evaporative condensers — applies to adiabatic and evaporative systems.
ACOP L8Duty holder obligations on every site with a water-cooled cooling system.
Uptime Institute Tier I–IVConcurrent maintainability framework — informs our access, RAMS and witnessing protocols.
BSRIA Soft Landings BG54Graduated handover and seasonal commissioning — increasingly mandated by hyperscale clients.
Frequently asked

Answered by engineers.

Do you work with hyperscale data centre operators?
Yes — directly and via the major M&E contractors and main contractors delivering hyperscale, colocation and edge sites in the UK. We mobilise around the build programme, with engineers who understand critical environment protocols, escorted access and zero-shutdown working.
Can you deliver BG29 pre-commission cleaning on a live programme?
Yes. Hyperscale BG29 is bigger, faster and tighter on tolerance than typical commercial work. We resource it accordingly — multiple flushing rigs, side-stream filtration sized to the loop, UKAS lab on standby for fast-track sampling and witnessing pack delivered as you go, not at the end.
How do you handle adiabatic and evaporative cooling?
Adiabatic pre-coolers and evaporative condensers carry Legionella duty under HSG274 Pt 1 — including Local Authority notification under the Notification of Cooling Towers Regulations 1992. We deliver the full HSG274 Pt 1 programme: chemistry, microbiology, cleaning, weekly inspections, LA notification — designed around the inherent intermittent-use risk of climate-driven adiabatic operation.
What about glycol and liquid cooling loops?
Glycol concentration management, inhibitor compatibility, microbiological control in glycol-water mixes and direct-to-chip liquid cooling chemistry — we cover all of it. The chemistry on a glycolated or DI loop is fundamentally different from a typical commercial chilled water system; we design it from the manufacturer's specification, not a generic template.
Can you support concurrent maintainability?
Yes — every method statement we write accounts for the topology of the system. We work in segments, never compromise redundancy, and coordinate with the critical environment team on every isolation. No water-side activity ever takes the facility below its design availability target.
Do you work nights, weekends and during peak load?
Yes — out-of-hours mobilisation is the norm on data centre work. Many cleaning and disinfection activities happen between 22:00 and 06:00 or on weekends to avoid load events. We resource accordingly and don't charge a premium that turns it into a special case.
