What it is

Water Softeners & Reverse Osmosis

Hard water and the wrong feed chemistry kill plant — calorifiers, dishwashers, steam boilers, washrooms, process equipment. Softening and reverse osmosis solve it at source: protect the plant, lower the energy cost, extend the asset life.

We size, supply, install and service commercial-grade duplex water softeners and RO systems — from small commercial sites with one softened cold loop through to industrial plant with multi-stage RO + EDI for process water.

Every installation is sized to your water hardness, peak flow, regeneration window and downstream chemistry — not pulled off a shelf. And every system is followed up with a servicing programme to keep it in spec.

We install and service water softeners and reverse-osmosis plant across Birmingham and the West Midlands from our Birmingham base, and support client sites UK-wide.

When you need it

  • Scale is building up in your calorifier, dishwasher, steam plant or process equipment
  • Your incoming mains hardness is > 200 ppm (most of the West Midlands sits in this range)
  • You need RO water for laboratory, medical, process or steam plant feed
  • Your existing softener is failing — high hardness leak, salt overuse, regeneration faults
  • You're commissioning new plant and the manufacturer specifies softened or RO feed
  • You need a WRAS-listed installation acceptable to the water authority
Our scope

What's included as standard.

A typical engagement covers every line below. Where your scope needs more — multi-site rollout, white-label delivery, framework KPIs — we build it on top of this baseline.

01

Water Quality Survey

Incoming mains chemistry — hardness, alkalinity, chloride, sulphate, conductivity, iron — to size the right treatment.

02

System Design

Duplex/triplex softener or multi-stage RO sized for peak flow, regeneration window and downstream demand.

03

Installation

WRAS-listed installation with all plumbing, electrical and BMS interfaces — to BS EN standards and water authority requirements.

04

Commissioning

Setting-to-work, performance verification, output testing, brine tank calibration, BMS integration and operator training.

05

Servicing PPM

Six-monthly PPM — valves, brine, resin sample, pre-filters, RO membranes, sanitisation and output verification.

06

Quality Monitoring

Continuous output monitoring — hardness on softeners, conductivity/permeate on RO — with exception alerting.

Frequently asked

Answered by engineers.

Do I need a softener if my water is already drinkable?
Potable doesn't mean soft. Most of the Midlands, East Anglia and South East sit on water with 200–350 ppm hardness — drinkable but hostile to calorifiers, steam plant, dishwashers and washroom fittings. Softening is about protecting downstream plant, not about the water you drink.
What's the difference between a softener and an RO system?
A softener exchanges hardness ions (calcium, magnesium) for sodium. An RO system removes essentially all dissolved solids by forcing water through a semi-permeable membrane. Softeners protect plant from scale; RO produces ultra-pure water for laboratories, process and high-pressure steam.
How often does a softener need salt?
It depends on the regeneration frequency, which depends on incoming hardness, throughput and resin volume. Duplex softeners on a 24-hour regeneration cycle in a typical commercial setting need topping up monthly. We deliver salt on a planned cadence so you never run out.
How long do RO membranes last?
Typically 3–5 years on a well pre-treated, well-cleaned system. Lifespan is determined by pre-treatment (a softener in front of the RO is mandatory), cleaning cadence and feedwater chemistry. We track permeate conductivity and pressure drop to predict end-of-life rather than wait for failure.
Are your installs WRAS approved?
Yes. All products supplied carry WRAS approval, and every installation is to Water Regulations standards with a Water Regulations notification submitted where required.
