Water hygiene monitoring — done to standard, evidenced to audit.

The day-to-day work that keeps your written scheme of control alive: temperatures, flushing, descales, sampling, tank inspections and TMV servicing — delivered on schedule, logged digitally, and produced as audit-ready evidence the moment you ask for it.

What it is

Water Hygiene Monitoring & Remedials

Your Legionella risk assessment told you what to watch. Your written scheme told you how often. Water hygiene monitoring is what actually happens on the day — engineers walking the building, taking temperatures, flushing outlets, lifting tank lids, signing the logbook.

Done well, it's the single most reliable defence against Legionella and the most useful piece of evidence in any HSE or insurer audit. Done badly, it's a clipboard exercise that proves nothing.

We deliver water hygiene the way it should be done: engineers familiar with your site, every task logged digitally with timestamp and photo, every exception flagged in real time, every month closed out with a compliance summary signed by a senior engineer.

We're a Birmingham-based team, which means water hygiene monitoring across Birmingham and the West Midlands runs on short notice and to tight schedules — and we extend the same managed service to sites UK-wide.

When you need it

  • You operate any non-domestic water system and need to evidence ongoing compliance
  • Your current provider is missing visits, missing temperatures, or missing the bigger picture
  • Your monitoring is on paper and you need digital records for HSE / insurer / framework audit
  • You've inherited a portfolio and need monitoring stood up across multiple sites
  • A sample has gone out of spec and you need investigative monitoring around the result
  • You're moving from reactive to proactive — fewer surprises at audit time
Our scope

What's included as standard.

A typical engagement covers every line below. Where your scope needs more — multi-site rollout, white-label delivery, framework KPIs — we build it on top of this baseline.

01

Temperature Monitoring

Sentinel and representative outlet temperatures — flow, return, distal — recorded against HSG274 thresholds.

02

Outlet Flushing

Little-used outlet flushing programme with digital sign-off and exception alerts when an outlet is missed.

03

Cold Water Storage Inspection

Quarterly/annual lid, insulation, screens and water condition checks with photos and a written report.

04

Calorifier Drain & Inspect

Annual drain, sediment inspection, anode check and chemical descale where required (see calorifier service).

05

Sampling Programme

Legionella, TVC, Pseudomonas and chemistry sampling to BS7592 via UKAS-accredited laboratories.

06

TMV Servicing

Annual servicing, thermal disinfection and component replacement on Thermostatic Mixing Valves (see TMV service).

Standards we work to

The compliance map for water hygiene.

HSG274 Pt 2The principal standard for hot and cold water hygiene monitoring — temperatures, flushing, sampling cadence.
BS7592Sampling for Legionella — methodology, container, transport, hold time. Get this wrong and the result is meaningless.
ACOP L8The legal backbone — sets the duty holder's obligations and the consequence of getting it wrong.
BS8558Code of practice for design, installation and disinfection of potable water systems.
HTM 04-01Where you operate in healthcare, this is the standard against which water safety groups are audited.
How we work

STEP 02

Quote & Scheme

Itemised quote plus written scheme of control, dosing logic and reporting cadence.

STEP 03

Mobilise

Risk assessments, method statements, HSE paperwork and induction — turnkey.

STEP 04

Deliver

Engineers on-site with digital reporting, photos, lab links and live PPM tracking.

STEP 05

Evidence

Certificates, logbooks and HSE-ready audit packs — issued within 48 hours.

Frequently asked

Answered by engineers.

How often should sentinel outlet temperatures be taken?
Monthly for hot and cold water sentinel outlets per HSG274 Part 2. Some risk systems (e.g. augmented care, high-occupancy or compromised systems) require more frequent monitoring as defined in your written scheme of control.
What's a sentinel outlet?
The first and last (or representative furthest-away) outlets on a hot water flow/return loop and a cold water distribution. They tell you whether the whole system is staying within the temperature thresholds that suppress Legionella growth — hot ≥ 50°C (55°C in healthcare) and cold ≤ 20°C.
How often should Legionella sampling be done?
It's risk-based. Most systems don't need routine sampling; some — augmented care, cooling towers, systems with a history of issues — do. Your written scheme of control should specify the cadence. We always recommend sampling around significant works, occupancy change or any unusual reading.
Can you take over from our current water hygiene provider?
Yes. We mobilise within 2–4 weeks, including site induction, asset verification against your existing risk assessment, gap-fill of any missed visits, and a written transition report. If your existing records have gaps, we tell you in writing rather than papering over them.
Do you provide digital reporting?
Every visit, every reading, every photo is timestamped, GPS-stamped where appropriate, and uploaded to your portal the same day. Monthly compliance summaries are signed by a senior engineer and emailed to the duty holder.
